They wouldn’t let me quit

Ok, first off…

I get this was a dirtbag move.

In my defense I was in a bit of a life-funk at the time.

But, it does illustrate just how powerful a good resume and interview can be, because I did about everything a guy could do to get fired… and they still wouldn’t. Matter of fact, the CEO showed up at my apartment to beg me to come back.

Anyway, it was this industrial supply shop.

They supplied big factories with all these obscure parts.

Specialized drill bits and weird tool parts, etc.

I got hired as an outside sales rep. And, I did my usual hub-bub on my resume and during the interview… and they hired me on the spot. Mind you, I showed up to the interview in jeans… for a sales job.

Big no-no.

Anyway, they had me spend the first month working at one of their supply depots. So, I wasn’t doing any selling… I was in basically a hardware store learning about all the different parts and whatnot.

And, it was horrible.

Didn’t take me long to figure out this wasn’t for me.

Even selling the stuff.

About as boring as you could imagine.

So, one day I just walked out.

Went on my lunch break and didn’t come back.

About 2 hours later, my doorbell rings.

It’s the CEO of the company, who’d heard what happened and driven an hour to show up at my apartment. And, he all but begged me to not to quit. I had to basically insult him to get him to leave.

It was silly.

Now, it’s not because I’m some awesome guy.

It’s because I learned a few things…

About dazzling people on resumes and in interviews.

And, he’d “fallen in love” so to speak.

Anyway, this stuff can give you tremendous power over your own work life. Now, you can use it for bad like I used to do and use it to be a dirtbag and hop from job to job, quitting on people and still getting hired someplace else.

Or, you can use it land your dream job.

To do a good job for people.

And be a good dude or dudette.

Up to you, but I suggest the latter.

Anyway, I recently posted one of my monthly “Get Paid to Code” trainings on Patreon where I show how to craft this kind of compelling resume. Specifically, I show you the 9 “rules” you need to follow to build a resume that positions you as the perfect fit for the position you’re applying for. The kind that makes them fall in love with you before you even walk in the door for your interview.

Along with the training, you’ll also get access to my full PHP 101 course, source code and all… my “how to profit from responsive design” course called Lightning Responsive, all my source code, my freelance templates and more.

Plus, anything I add going forward.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING

Sukh Plaha

John is a fantastic and patient tutor, who is not just able to share knowledge and communicate it very effectively – but able to support one in applying it. However, I believe that John has a very rare ability to go further than just imparting knowledge and showing one how to apply it. He is able to innately provoke one’s curiosity when explaining and demonstrating concepts, to the extent that one can explore and unravel their own learning journey. Thanks very much John!

Ray Edwards

I recommend John every chance I get. If every person I worked with were as committed to excellence, punctuality, value, and unquestionable integrity… the world would be a better place. Highest recommendation.

John is amazing at building membership sites. He converted one of my sites over from it’s existing (hardly working) platform over to the clean and simple to use WishList membership platform. I highly recommend using John and WishList for any of your membership site needs.
