Good ol’ “ASAP Charlie”.
He was Tim Ferriss’ assistant at the time — and he was the final straw. By this point, I’d already worked with Lewis Howes and Michael Hyatt and Inc. Magazine. So, I’d gotten used to the “awe” of it all.
And was starting to see a pattern.
Then, Tim Ferriss’ 4-Hour Body project came calling.
They wanted a forum built with WordPress…
Locked down for only people who’d purchased his book. Anyway, when you work with these clients, the day-to-day isn’t actually with them. It’s with their “entourage”. And the groupies tend to be way more gassed up than the client themselves.
Most of those clients were pretty chill.
Their assistants and such, though?
Haha. Noooo (Shakes head vigorously).
They loved to throw around the “Do you know who I work for” line. Yes, dummy, I know who you work for. I still don’t give a s***. Wrong is wrong. Anyway, ol’ ASAP Charlie was a real doozy (heavy on the sarcasm).
I called him that because everything was ASAP.
“Hey can you look at such and such… ASAP.”
“Hey, we need this and that… and we need it ASAP.”
“Hey, build us a rocket to the moon with a frappuccino machine… ASAP!”
Like dude… chill. I got it. It’s all ASAP. Anyway, that was when I decided I was done with the celebrity clients. The testimonial and being able to put them in my portfolio was nice. But, they didn’t pay any more than any other client.
And they just weren’t worth the work… to me.
I’ve only done a few since.
But, in a highly constrained setup.
And, usually through an intermediary…
So, I don’t have to deal with the groupies.
Anyway, what’s the point of all this? Well, it’s kinda weird that these kinds of famous clients would seek out some random, mostly unknown freelance web developer like me. I haven’t even mentioned all the famous one who contacted me and I turned down.
A guy considered one of the top online marketers on the planet.
A bestselling author from the U.K.
A world-famous blogger and coach.
Why did they all seek out ME and all but beg me to let them hire me? There’s a good reason. It’s something I’ve been alluding to in these emails for the past couple weeks — and it’s the thrust of Part 1 of my Freelance Feast course.
The raison d’etre for that part of the course — if you will.
The whole reason it exists.
And, anybody can do it. I’m just a trailer park kid, who grew up in a town of less than 200 people in rural Nebraska. I’m a hermit who doesn’t do a bunch of networking or schmoozing at swanky events.
That’s now how I landed these clients.
They came to me.
Anyway, if you want to get access to this same secret… as I said, it’s the thrust of Part of my Freelance Feast course. As you know by now, the course is up on Skillshare where you can get access for essentially free.
It’s Lesson #3 here: https://myjohn.us/feast
If you’re a Skillshare member, that will take you straight into the course. If not, that will give you access to a 14-day trial of the platform where you get 100% unfettered access to the entire library of courses on the site — over 30,000.
That’s every course, every video, every PDF, every download…
The whole shabang.
And it includes my course above.
Then, if you cancel before the 14 days is up… you’ll never pay a penny. A few hoops to jump through for sure, but might be worth it to you. Especially since the course is coming down from Skillshare in just a few days.
And I’ll sell it on my website for around $150 or so.
So, if you want access before the door slams shut on this offer…
Time’s a tickin’, buckwheat.

John
P.S. Patreon homies… you know what’s up. You, of course, already have access here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/50847910. Also, the gift that I mentioned I would be sending your way just arrived at my office. So, I’ll be shipping those out to you soon. So, be on the lookout for that.
