I about fell outta my truck.
Was at the Evil Clown joint (McDonald’s) the other day. Was sitting in the curbside waiting on my food. When we pulled in… a cop had some dude pulled over in the parking lot. So, we’re sitting there watching as they go back and forth.
At some point, the cop says he’s searching the guy’s car.
And the guy goes ballistic.
Just starts laying into this cop: “You’re the lowest of low. You’re such a douchebag. You f***ing loser! Do you have any idea what I’ve been through? Did you stop to think about that?” On and on… ripping him up one side and down the other.
Then, at one point he says…
“You wanna know how I know you’re a turd?”
I’m not a cop-hater or anything, but I couldn’t help it. I about fell outta my truck. Like, what’s the cop supposed to say?
“Oh, yes please, kind sir. Do tell me how you know I’m a turd.”
Anyway, you know the po-po. Was like 15 seconds later and the cop’s backup came flying up, hopped out and the dude shut it down real quick. I’m guessing after it was over, the guy probably did the “walk of shame”.
“Hey man, I’m sorry about what I said.”
“I lost my cool. I didn’t mean it.”
The whole thing just cracked me up.
But, I got to thinking about that cop. I know policing is a hot button issue right now, but I just try to put myself in other people’s shoes. I imagine that cop didn’t join up in order to be evil or anything.
From his perspective, he probably feels he’s doing a service.
And, he’s helping to protect his community.
And all the people in it.
Yet, here he is… getting venom spewed at him — over a pretty standard traffic stop, mind you — by one of the very people he feels like he’s helping. Underappreciated. Undervalued. And, probably feels underpaid.
That pretty accurately describes the experience many freelancers have. Maybe even how YOU feel right now. This is one of the “hidden” benefits of my Cold Email Method. People tend to focus on the emails.
But, it’s also about the *clients*.
Who THEY are.
It’s not about getting hired by any old rando. It’s about finding, sifting and sorting to find the highest quality leads in *desperate* need of your help. Clients who you KNOW have money and can pay *well* for your services.
AND, clients who have a legitimate need for what you do.
When you focus in on THOSE clients…
Not only do you get better response, convert more into clients, get paid better and generally have a better experience… but those clients tend to appreciate and value what you do more.
Because they understand business.
It’s why they’re successful.
And they recognize the important role you play for them.
And they appreciate it.
As weird as it sounds, the more a client pays for your services, the more they tend to appreciate and value you what you do — and treat you better. And, that’s one of the less-obvious things I show you how to do in the course.
