A lot of people use Blockbuster as an example.
Rightfully so… their fall from grace is a poignant reminder that anyone can crash and burn no matter how great things are going now. But, there’s a part of that story almost no one talks about…
That I think is the most important lesson.
A lot of people dig into the why…
And the how.
Which is all important.
But, also kinda obvious. They were arrogant, slow-moving and made some bad business investments — and they got burnt. Yeah, no kidding. But, this other part of the story is the thing I constantly think about it.
The thing that keeps me up at night…
Because a similar thing happened to my dad.
And, it’s the reason WHY I grew up in a rat-infested trailer house. Why I went days at a time without eating. Why I wore donated clothes and got made fun of at school by the kids who used to own those clothes.
All the misery and heartache I endured…
It all could have been avoided had my dad learned that lesson.
And, acted accordingly.
It’s one of the things I’ve vowed to never do… so my kids don’t have to go through what I did. It’s what keeps me motivated even though my life is essentially made at this point and I could retire any time I want.
