I wrote a whole blog post about this awhile back…
But, the idea is pretty simple. We all know 2020 being strapped to the front of a runaway roller coaster with no brakes. And, 2021 isn’t likely to be a whole lot better. Whiners will sit around and moan and complain.
Winners will do something about it.
My plan?
You’ve probably heard a zillion times that, during tough times like this, there are always winners and losers. People who get wrecked and people profit wildly. Amazon, Nintendo, Clorox — they’ve all seen huge gains.
Meanwhile, local businesses across the country have been wrecked.
Restaurants, gyms, theaters…
All hit hard.
Winners and losers.
So, what’s a freelanca’ to do?
You strap yourself to the winners and ride out the wave. These companies are growing. They need people. AND, because the Corona has everybody working from home, they’re a lot more likely to hire a freelancer.
Or, at the very least, let you work remote.
And, that’s what I did.
As fate would have it, a company whose product I was interested in was looking for people. So, I reached out. And now, I’m on monthly retainer with them. It took a total of about two weeks from idea to getting hired.
And, I was off to the races.
Will I work with them forever?
Who knows?
These companies come and go. The larger point two-fold: 1) it’s never about one company. The company you’re contracting with could be a winner this go-around and a loser next time. You never really know.
Don’t get attached.
Second, it’s about knowing HOW to get them to hire you.
That’s the real trick.
Because when times are tough, more people will be out of work. And any company that’s hiring will have a poop-ton of applications thrown their way. How do you stand out? How do you get them to hire YOU?
There is a trick (that’s not really a trick at all) to it.
A way to directly increase the perceived value of what you do in the mind of your client. To get them to see you as unique and different — and exactly what they’re after. To give them the one thing they really want when hiring someone:
HOPE.
In any case, I teach you this process in my 5-Figure Formula course. It can be used so many different ways, but maybe the most relevant, right now, is getting the “winners” from 2020 to hire YOU in 2021.
