One of the later sales jobs I had was for this company called CPI.
I honestly don’t even remember what that stood for. I think it was the owner’s name. Gotta love those self-aggrandizing CEOs! Haha.
Anyway, they sold what now would be called “managed” Qwest phone service. Every month, we got a list of Qwest business phone subscribers whose contracts were up in 2 months or less.
Our job was to convince them to renew…
But, with our add-on service.
Basically, we became their account managers. So, instead of calling the Qwest hotline if they needed help and waiting on hold for 30+ minutes… they called us and we had a whole support department that managed their account for them.
I was on the sales team.
Every day, I got a list of new leads to call.
Had a script I used.
It was glorified tele-marketing.
But, it paid way better. 6-figures plus if you met even modest sales goals. My first month on the job I instantly became the top salesman on staff — and was blowing all the goals the company had out of the water.
And, it was ultimately just cold-calling.
I guess that’s why I’ve never had the mindset that “cold outreach doesn’t work… meeeeh” like some of the negative know-it-alls I hear from do. This company was a multi-million dollar company 100% based on cold-calling.
I saw it work first-hand.
Or there’s Woodpecker CRM.
It’s a CRM with a heavy focus on cold outreach.
Does 3 mil in revenue per year.
Did you know that 100% of SDR teams use cold email as an outreach channel? These are teams that specialize in outbound marketing. Teams that big companies hire to do their outbound marketing for them.
And, 100% of them use cold email.
That should tell you something.
Now, here’s the thing…
If you’re like me, you’ve received some bad cold emails in your time on the internet. I just got one this morning, in fact (that I’ll likely write about here soon). And, you imagine doing that and think, “Who in the world would respond to that?”
And, you’re right.
Those go straight to my trash.
But, that’s not what I teach you to do. The method I teach is a sophisticated, but simple, approach to cold email that’s based on both my experience doing cold outreach for various companies throughout my career…
AND, real-world data from companies like Woodpecker.
Who get to see it from a high-level, data-driven perspective.
I’ll be talking about this more here soon…
But, if you just want to cut to the chase and learn the methods…
It’s what I teach in my Cold Email Method course.
Right now, you can get access to the course over on Skillshare. I’ve put it there to give everybody a chance to take it… regardless of your financial situation. You’ll find the course as Lesson #3 here: https://myjohn.us/coldemail.
But, that’s only for the month of April.
After that, I’ll be taking it down and selling it on my website probably for around $100 or so. So, if you want to save yourself some smackers… this is how.
Anyway, if you’re already a Skillshare member, that link will take you right to the course. If not, it will trigger a 14-day trial of Skillshare for you. What some people do is they sign up for the trial, take the course and then cancel before the trial is up…
And you end up never paying a penny for the course.
It is a few hoops to jump through…
But might be worth it to you.
To save that $100.
In any case, it’s up to you.
