I want you to imagine YOU are the client.
And you’re looking at two Upwork profiles side-by-side. Titles about the same. Overview says similar stuff. Portfolio, skills, certifications, etc… all about the same.
Except one glaring difference.
One profile has a big Job History. They have a bunch of 5-star reviews, clients raving about how great they are, a perfect Job Success Score… and the other profile has nothing. It’s not bad. There’s no negative reviews. There’s just nothing in terms of Job History or reviews.
If YOU were the client, who do YOU hire?
It’s that scenario that’s been the focus of my Upwork rantings and ravings for close to a decade. Because it’s the exact situation so many freelancers are in when they’re new to Upwork. And the big question is… in that situation:
What can you say to get someone to take a chance on you?
Honestly think about that for a second.
It’s a tricky deal.
That’s why the comments like this that I get are so remarkable:
“I took this course 5 days ago and created an Upwork profile and everything according to course instruction and today I got 2 projects all thanks to this course.”
“I followed his steps and I am flooded with interviews in a week. I got into two Talent clouds after taking this course… I got invitation from Talent specialists from upwork and lot more.”
“After viewing [John’s] course during lockdown I made account and it got approved the same day and amazingly I got my first job the very same day, I couldn’t believe, I thought may be I got it by coincidence. Anyways I completed the job and after two days I got another job and within a week I got 3 jobs and completed them successfully.”
People in that exact situation who were able to get client to take a chance on them. And, in many cases, just took off from there.
Anyway, that’s the crux of the Upwork series I’ve been blabbing about as of late. It’s a long overdue update to my original Freelancing on Upwork course (which is still very good and where these comments came from) filled with everything new I’ve learned since I first recorded that course.
From the thousands of students who’ve taken it.
The big “aha” is the answer to the above question: “What can you say to get someone to take a chance on you — when you have no job history, reviews or Job Success Score?” I have the answer and I teach it to you in this series along with a step-by-step run-through of implementing this approach when you build your profile.
If you’ve been trying to figure Upwork out, this’ll be up your alley.
In any case, the course is up on Skillshare you can get it essentially free. That’s because, as a teacher there, I’m able to get you an exclusive 1-month free trial of the platform.
With that, you get full access to all 30,000+ courses on the site. And, if you cancel before the 1 month is up, you never pay a penny. So, basically free run on my courses (and thousands of others).
Anyway, do with that what you will.
You can find the link to the 1-month free trial here: https://johnmorrisonline.com/ltf

P.S. Patron, you’ll find your access info on that page, as well.
