Bully your way into a client’s wallet

Another lesson learned in the windy sand dunes of Iraq.

The day I arrived on base (I was about 30 days behind everyone else because I had to stay in Kuwait and load all our equipment on the convoys taking them to Iraq)… I had been there less than 5 minutes.

And my platoon sergeant said…

“Hey, glad you made it safe. So, here’s the deal… you’re now a squad leader. And, you’re also going to be our supply warehouse NCOIC (the guy in charge).”

Uh… whaaaaat?

I went from regular ol’ grunt to suddenly in charge of the most important mission our company had on base — and in charge of 15 other people… in a war zone!

Now, there’s a reason WHY that happened.

Which is a story for another time.

But… as you can imagine, that experience taught me a lot.

Including a simple little tactic I’ve used (and never told anyone about until now)… to burrow deep into the psyche of your clients and make them fear ever getting rid of you. And, willing to pay you nearly any fee you demand to keep you on board.

And, it has nothing to do with how skilled you are.

Or, being a good communicator.

Nothing like that.

Anyway, I made a quick recording where I tell the story…
